Worship Pastor

Job Description

Hills View Evangelical Free Church is seeking a part-time Worship Director or Worship Pastor which would be a salaried position, based on 20 hours/week. The church desires that the person for this ministry position will focus their talents and gifting in these four specific areas: 

1. Worship Leader

     a. Lead worship for two services each week, Sundays at 8:15 am and 10:00 am

     b. Lead additional services as they come up on the calendar - Good Friday, Christmas Eve, funerals, weddings, etc. (Weddings and funerals usually have additional compensation from the families.) 

     c. After prayerful consideration, select songs, evaluating different keys, put the songs into sets, develop the transitions between songs, with music, prayer or scripture.       

     d. Seek out new songs, and evaluate their theology, and musical application to our church and evaluate songs on our current song list. 

     e. Find, adapt, or create arrangements of worship songs and hymns for use for worship at Hills View. 

     f. Coordinate between the pastors, elders, tech team and the worship team so that the services are run seamlessly, without distractions. 

2. Servant Leader of the Worship Team

     a. Practice their own singing and instrument throughout the week. Strong lead vocal and leading from either the piano or acoustic guitar is preferred. 

     b. Recruit, mentor and train members of the worship team on their voice and/or instrument as needed. 

     c. Lead a worship practice during the week

          i. Listen to the entire mix for issues that need to be worked out. 

          ii. Work with the team to correct issues that can be corrected. 

     d. Shepherd the worship team and tech team, leading in accordance with Biblical truths. Use leadership, pastoral, and management skills to get the most out of volunteer and staff teams that serve under the direction of the Worship Director. 

3. Manager of the Church Worship Ministry

     a. Schedule worship team members and tech team members based on the individual team member's strengths and weaknesses and how they work together on the team. 

     b. Attend weekly Church Staff Meetings (Monday morning at 9:30 am). 

     c. Have familiarity with the tech tools used by the church, such as: 

          i. The sound-board

          ii. Software used for lighting, live video, presentation, recording, and on-line broadcasting. 

          iii. On-line resources such as a Multi-tracks Rehearsal Tracks, YouTube, and Facebook

          iv. Stage lighting. 

     d. Mentor and train members of the tech team on sound reinforcement, live streaming, camera operation, and lighting, and coordinate with outside consultants as necessary for design, installation, and training on the various technical areas. 

     e. Comply with CCLI or other copy-right reporting requirements. 

General Guidance: The Hills View Evangelical Church Elder Team desires that the worship experience at Hills View to be one of excellence, being one prayerfully and purposefully planned, and then trusting God for the results in the souls of the attenders here at Hills View. The Worship Director will work under the direct guidance of the Senior Pastor, but will follow the guidance of the Elder Team and work closely with the associate pastor and youth/children’s ministry director. The Worship Director will fully embrace the Core Values of Hills View Evangelical Free Church, and is in agreement with the Evangelical Free Church of America Association’s Statement of Faith. 

Compensation and Benefits: The Worship Director will be viewed as a part-time employee (20 hours a week) with a salary of $30,000 a year. Time off is encouraged, but the Worship Leader should entrust the Sunday Services to another Worship Leader when they are away on a given Sunday. 

Summary: The right candidate will have experience showing they have the pastoral aptitude, leadership, administrative, technical, and musical skills to accomplish the job with excellence. They should be convinced they have a calling to do this job, be of good reputation and Christian character in accordance with 1 Timothy 3, and Titus 1, and be in agreement with the style of worship currently at Hills View, a blend of traditional and contemporary, songs and hymns, including a few decades-old favorites. Although the Worship Director position is only part time at this time, the ideal candidate would be able to transition to a full-time status when the need arises for additional pastoral shepherding in the church.
